George Wilcox was born January 16, 1915, in RoEllen, Dyer County, Tennessee.  He graduated from Gupton-Jones School of Embalming in Nashville, Tennessee in 1935.  George came to Carthage from Newbern, Tennessee, on his twenty-first birthday in 1936.

He first worked for Woodall Funeral Home in Carthage.  On June 6, 1937,  he married Eugenia "Gene" Jordan.  Not long after, Woodall Funeral Home became White & Wright Funeral Home and was located at 211 East Main Street in Carthage.  In 1941 George Wilcox purchased Mr. Wright's part of the funeral home, and it became White & Wilcox Funeral Home.  In 1949 White & Wilcox Funeral Home moved to its present location at 106 Jordan Street in Carthage.  In 1954 George Wilcox became the sole owner, and Wilcox Funeral Home was formed.

George Wilcox served as President of Mississippi Funeral Directors' Association in 1959.  His son, Thomas E. "Sonny" Wilcox graduated from John A. Gupton School of Mortuary Science in Nashville, Tennessee in 1963.  In 1964, Wilcox Funeral Home was incorporated with George Wilcox, Gene Wilcox, Frances Sue Wilcox Hodges, Betty Lou "Boo" Wilcox Lee, and Thomas E. "Sonny" Wilcox as stockholders.  George Wilcox served as a member and President of Mississippi State Board of Embalming.  He died on August 30, 1966.

Like his father, Sonny also has served as a member and President of Mississippi State Board of Embalming.  Sonny has also served on the Mississippi State Board of Funeral Service and served as President of Mississippi Funeral Directors' Association in 1993.  In 1998 officers of Wilcox Funeral Home were elected.  They are Thomas E. "Sonny" Wilcox, President; Jason Wilcox, Vice-President; Linda Kaye Wilcox, Secretary; and Marianna Wilcox Harkins, Treasurer.

Jason Wilcox now serves as Vice-President of the Mississippi Funeral Directors' Association.  He will continue the legacy of service to the Carthage community and serve as President of the Mississippi Funeral Directors' Association in 2007.  At that time he will be the third member of the Wilcox family to serve the state of Mississippi in this capacity.

Wilcox Funeral Home, Inc., is a member of Mississippi Funeral Directors' Association, National Funeral Directors' Association and Selected Independent Funeral Homes.
